The Step Race

Many of us treat diversity like we do our step kids. We love them but we unconsciously give favor to our own. While we may not be able to change the heart in many families, we need to love people because they are people. Include and respect them because they are part of the family.

I love this and really appreciate the analogy as I am both a minority and a step parent. Regardless of what many people will admit, it takes true intention not to be bias. It really does take a conscious effort to treat our step children with enough love they feel included and valued. The same goes towards our attitudes for people of different cultures, beliefs, and color.
